Worship Leader Tip: Teach the Song Before You Sing It
October 1, 2026
Most congregations will not learn a new song while trying to sing it. Give people thirty seconds to hear where a song goes before you start one.
The walkthrough
Name the form out loud — verse, chorus, bridge. Play the first line of the chorus and invite the room to sing it back to you. Then say: "that's the chorus, and we'll sing it three times today."
Why it works
People sing with confidence when they know what comes next. One sentence of rehearsal costs less than a month of a song nobody can find.
Keep it short
Ninety seconds is plenty. If a song needs more teaching than that, it may be too hard for this week — save it for another Sunday.
